Encyclopocalypse Publications Announces Pre-Order for Sleepaway Camp: The Novelization by B.R. Flynn
An Empathetic Reimagining of the 1983 Cult Classic Slasher, Available August 26, 2025
Encyclopocalypse Publications is proud to announce the upcoming release of Sleepaway Camp: The Novelization, a bold and empathetic reimagining of the 1983 cult classic slasher film. Authored by B.R. Flynn and based on the original screenplay by Robert Hiltzik, this novelization offers a fresh perspective on a beloved horror staple.
Mike Watt (Exploitation Nation) says, “B.R. Flynn’s adaptation of the classic slasher turns it around on itself, taking the twist and making it central to the narrative. It’s a rare instance where the adaptation might be even better than the source.”
Set in the summer of 1983 at Camp Arawak, the story follows Angela Baker, a quiet and withdrawn teenager seeking a fresh start amidst the camp’s lively atmosphere. However, as tensions rise and bodies begin to pile up, Angela’s past traumas resurface, and a darkness within her starts to emerge.

Flynn’s adaptation delves deeper into Angela’s psyche, exploring themes of trauma, identity, and the societal challenges faced by those who are misunderstood. This novelization not only honors the original film’s legacy but also provides a nuanced narrative that resonates with contemporary readers.
“As someone who has struggled with issues of gender and identity, the opportunity to shape this classic slasher juggernaut into something that satisfies longtime fans and, hopefully, show them something new, has left me humbled, elated, and, in the end, proud” says author B.R. Flynn.
Sleepaway Camp: The Novelization is now available for pre-order here, with a scheduled release date of August 26, 2025. The book will be offered in trade paperback, retro mass market paperback, and ebook formats.
